We are often bombarded by noise. Whether it be notifications, the news, family, radio, emails, parents, friends. Even the best noises, like a friend calling for a chat can feel like a cacophony.

Taking time away from the noise can equal a reset. I write this surrounded by noise but it’s good noise. The birds are singing in the trees, people around me are laughing, there’s music and a gently splashing lake. These noises feel soothing, it’s a calm noise as I’ve taken time, time for me.

The normal noises feel demanding, stepping out of this noise before it overwhelms can be crucial to our well-being.

Just one or two steps away, could it be a walk? Meditation? Yoga?  A run maybe?  Just you and the quiet. A friend of mine recently went on a silent retreat for a weekend just her and her thoughts and people around her but no words. Could this be for you?

Another friend went away recently for a weekend alone just to paint. She was in a lodge in the trees taking time for herself and clearing her mind. She loved it. she read, painted, walked and found her place and her space and her peace. These simple pleasures can often be overlooked, I admire her ability to love her own company and I’m inspired by her. Taking time, something we often feel we never have enough of.

How could we all find our quiet away from our noisy lives? Could we silence our phones? Turn off the news? Diarise time alone? Take a bath? It doesn’t need to be a holiday, it’s just to reward ourselves with time and peace. Being able to switch off, be yourself and live in the quiet can come in all forms. How can you find yours?
